Maison Noir

We were instructed to design a new dwelling within the curtilage of an existing property and obtain planning and building permissions.

The client had a strong idea on aesthetics and form so we worked collaboratively to create Maison Noir.  It is configured as an ‘upside down’ house to make the most of the rural views over the railway track and adjacent fields.

At first floor level there is a flexible open plan kitchen / dining / family space with a separate lining room / snug, both with access to a balcony.  We also incorporated a utility room and wc.  At ground floor level there is a master bedroom suite with a dressing room and en-suite bathroom, a further two double bedrooms, a study and house bathroom.

As you enter the property you are greeted by a double height space with a large rooflight above to flood light into the house and frame views of the sky.  The site has been fully landscaped and as the comprehensive planting scheme matures the dark tones of the external cladding will help the building settle into its environment and enhance the vibrancy of the surrounding greenery.

Maison Noir is fully wheelchair accessible, is constructed of a highly insulated timber frame superstructure and scores an A+ rating for Environmental Impact and CO2 emissions.
